September 2023 Update

Demolition has started on first phase of the Heritage at Old Town redevelopment project and will continue through mid-December.

Demolition activities will cause intermittent closure to the sidewalk on the west side of Alfred Street. The sidewalk on the east side of Alfred Street will not be affected. Pedestrians will be provided a sidewalk detour path via marked crosswalks. There are no anticipated roadway or lane adjustments required throughout the demolition work. 

To mitigate dust and dirt during demotion activities, crews will use mechanical water misters and haul demolition materials off site daily via a pre-approved truck route.

Demolition work will be conducted according to the City of Alexandria Noise Ordinance.

After demolition work is completed in December, work will pause and resume in February.
